GMT Master History:
The Rolex GMT was designed as an aviator watch. Pilots used the second time to display the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). The «GMT» time was replaced in 1972 in the aviation industry by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), the term GMT is still known and kept as part of the name of the GMT Master.
In the 1940s and 50s flying distances got longer and the pilots travelled multiple time zones. Pan Am asked Rolex to develop a watch which would tel different times simultaneously. The first produced GMT was ref 6542.
Condition Report:
Rolex introduced the Coke bezel on the GMT-Master in 1983. The term "Coke" refers to the black and red color scheme of the bezel, which resembles the colors of the Coca-Cola logo. This bezel was part of the GMT-Master II model, which featured an upgraded movement that allowed for independent adjustment of the hour hand.
The Coke bezel became particularly popular due to its distinctive appearance, offering a bold contrast to the traditional Pepsi bezel (blue and red). It was available on the Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 16710 and remained in production until the early 2000s. The Coke bezel is now considered a classic and is highly sought after by collectors.
The Present example from the Ref 16710 is in a very clean condition, The watch comes with its oringinal warranty certificate as a box. A timeless classic to own in the Rolex galaxy.
