Rolex Submariner 1680-1978

Rolex Submariner History: 

In September 1953, Rolex let the World know – in a spectacular way – that they were able to produce a diver’s watch. Auguste Piccard dove 3131,8 meters in the Ocean with his Bathyscaphe deep-diving submarine. Affixed to the vessel’s hull was Wilsdorf’s Rolex watch especially created for this adventure featuring a clearly visible Rolex logo and luminous dial. When the Bathyscape rose out of the water, the Rolex watch was still working properly.

In 1954 the first 3 Submariner references were released (6200, 62004 and 6205)

Produced for nearly 70 years the Rolex Submariner is a legend and one of the most sought after watch in the world.

Condition report

Released in 1967, the Rolex 1680 first came out with the Submariner painted in red on the dial and the depth rating in “meters first”. The three white dials fitted to the gen.2  1680 were all feet first versions, all with tritium lume. These dials were supplied on the models made between approximately 1975 and the end of the watch’s run in 1979/1980. (4.0M and 7M case numbers). 

Manufactured in late 1978 and sold in 1980, the present watch is in a nears New Old Stock condition.

It is fitted with a Mark I dial:  the ‘SUBMARINER’ line is the same width as the depth rating line, and the ‘L’ in Rolex is perfectly in the middle under the coronet logo. They also feature closed 6’s

Flawless matte dial, beautiful and slightly faded fat font insert. Case is thick and chamfers are still very visible. Comes with a period correct 93150 solid link bracelet.

Very rare to find as is, this watch comes with the original invoice from the Rolex AD, original guarantee,  complete history (and invoices)  of services done at Rolex, service guarantees, booklets, 1980 calendar, tags, Submariner anchor,  presentation and cover box.
